aluminum extrusions

All retractable enclosures distributed by Viewpoint LLC are manufactured by Roll-A-Cover, Int’l. Rafters, gussets & hardware are constructed with heavy duty 6061 T6 aluminum. All other extrusions are made of 6063 T6.

60601

60601 is an aluminum alloy with magnesium and silicon as the alloying element. It has generally good mechanical properties and is heat treatable and weldable. It is commonly produced in several heat temper grades, 6061-O, 6061-T4, 6061-T6, 6061-T651, 6061-T42.

60601-T6

T6 temper 6061 has an ultimate tensile strength of at least 42,000psi (290 MPa) and yield strength of at least 35,000 psi (241 MPa). In thicknesses of 0.250” (6.35mm) or less, it has elongation of 8% or more; in thicker sections, it has elongation of 10%.

Glazing

Glazing

As a thermoplastic, PALSUN eventually melts and burns under the intense heat of a blazing fire. However, palsun does not propogate flame, and is solidified and self-extinguished as soon as the direct flame is taken away. PALSUN doesn’t produce any toxic fumes or gases when it burns.

PALSUN FR

PALSUN FR is a fire retardant flat solid polycarbonate sheet with improved flammability ratings. The flame retardant additives make it virtually non-combustible. When flame licks the sheet, it will only get scorched and eventually melt, solidifying quickly when the direct heat source is removed. Drippings do not ignite other combustible materials, as they do not actually burn.

Smoke and Heat Extraction

in anactual full scale combustion, when PALSUN overhead glazing (as in skylights) is exposed to intense heat it will soften at 150 - 160 C and produce apertures in the glazing, enabling heat and smoke to escape. Reduced temperatures inside the structure help to extinguish the fire.

Flammability Classifications

PALSUN and PALSUN FR are classified as appears in the following table, based on tests executed by certified independent testing laboratories.
